How did we get here?

The Story Behind Terra Nueva and Its Founder, Stu Phillips

When people hear the year 1984, they usually think of George Orwell.

For Stu Phillips, 1984 represents something very different.

It was the year that unknowingly set in motion a journey that would span more than four decades and ultimately lead to the creation of Terra Nueva.

At the time, Stu was simply a young music enthusiast with a growing passion for live entertainment.

What he couldn't have known was that a series of seemingly unrelated experiences would eventually converge into a vision for the future of entertainment.

Chapter 1

1984: The Spark

One of the defining moments that happened this year was when Stu was introduced to Richard Gray by an architect and & designer named Chris Margenout. Neither could have imagined that more than four decades later, they would still be working together, developing what would eventually become Terra Nueva.

Richard Gray, Queen's Creative Director and the designer who was also behind the iconic Live Aid logo, represented a world that seemed almost mythical to a music-obsessed teenager. Through that introduction, Stu gained his first glimpse behind the scenes of the entertainment industry and discovered that the magic of music wasn't created solely by the artists on stage, but by an entire ecosystem of creative people working behind the scenes.

During that encounter, Stu was invited to paint the famous Green Frog character from Queen's A Kind of Magic onto an original piece of artwork that would ultimately appear on the back of the album sleeve itself. While it may have seemed like a small moment at the time, it provided his first glimpse behind the curtain of the entertainment industry and showed what was possible if only you have a dream, vision and dedication.

Later that same year, Stu watched Queensrÿche open for Dio. Geoff Tate’s performance left a lasting impression. It wasn't simply the music. It was the storytelling, the atmosphere, the production and the ability of live entertainment to transport people somewhere else entirely.

1984 also marked another important milestone.

It was the year Stu joined his first band as a guitarist. For the first time, he wasn't standing in the crowd. He was standing on the stage. Writing songs. Rehearsing. Performing. Creating.

Without realising it, he had found the industry that would shape the rest of his life.

Chapter 2

Learning The Craft (1985-1995)

Throughout the following decade, Stu immersed himself in both music and design. Alongside performing and writing music, he trained as an Architectural Technician. While the two paths appeared unrelated at the time, they would later become fundamental building blocks of Terra Nueva.

Music taught him how to create experiences.

Architecture taught him how to create spaces.

One would eventually influence the other in ways he could never have imagined.

Chapter 3

Formula One, Film & Finding Direction (1996-2001)

In 1996, Stu entered the world of Formula One logistics. Working within one of the most demanding environments on the planet, he learned the importance of precision, planning and execution under pressure. There were no second chances. No missed deadlines. No excuses.

The lessons learned during those years would remain with him throughout his career. From there, he transitioned into Film and Television, supporting productions with logistics, specialist vehicles and production support services. Without realising it, another piece of the Terra Nueva puzzle was falling into place. Film introduced storytelling. Formula One introduced precision. Music introduced creativity. The foundations were quietly forming.

Chapter 4

Music Touring Becomes A Career

In 2001, Stu returned to music, this time on a global scale. Over the following two decades, he worked throughout the UK, Europe and internationally across touring, production, logistics, artist liaison, venue operations and business development. Alongside touring, he owned and operated live music venues, promoted events and worked with developing artists. This unique combination of experiences allowed him to see the industry from every possible angle.

The artist. The venue. The promoter. The supplier. The manager. The audience.

Every role added another layer of understanding. Those years eventually led to the creation of House of Tours Global.

Built around a simple philosophy:

One Call Gets It All

What began as a logistics and touring business would eventually become the platform upon which Terra Nueva was built.

More importantly, it has created an international network of artists, managers, promoters, venues, suppliers and technology partners that continues to support Terra Nueva today.

Chapter 5

Building Spaces & Experiences

Throughout all of this, Stu continued operating his design and build business. Looking back, it becomes clear how much influence architecture had on the vision that would later become Terra Nueva. Touring taught him how to create experiences. Architecture taught him how to create spaces. Construction taught him how to turn ideas into reality. When touring became intense, design and construction offered balance. When construction became demanding, music inspired.

The virtual venues being developed through Terra Nueva today are not simply technology projects. They are carefully considered spaces. Long before Terra Nueva existed, Stu was already designing worlds with Chris.

He just didn't know they would eventually become digital.

Chapter 6

The First Battle With Cancer

In 2012, Stu received his first cancer diagnosis. Almost overnight, his music touring career came to a halt. For eighteen months, treatment and recovery became the priority. During that period, his architectural and design business became a lifeline. It provided stability, creativity and purpose at a time when uncertainty dominated daily life.

Eventually, he recovered and returned to touring, logistics and live events. The experience taught resilience. A lesson that would become invaluable later.

Chapter 7

The World Stops

Then came 2020. COVID brought the global entertainment industry to a standstill. Tours disappeared. Venues closed. Festivals vanished. Like everyone else, Stu was concerned about survival.

But he also found himself asking a different question:

What comes next?

That question would eventually become Terra Nueva.

Chapter 8

The Technology Awakening

During lockdown, Stu began exploring livestreaming technologies and new ways of connecting artists with audiences. The more he experimented, the more he realised something important. Livestreaming wasn't a replacement for live entertainment. It was an extension of it.

As restrictions eased, his attention turned towards physical touring, obviously, but also motion capture, volumetric capture, virtual production, gaming technologies and digital twins. For the first time, a future emerged where artists could perform simultaneously in physical and digital worlds.

The seeds of Terra Nueva had been planted.

Chapter 9

Cancer Returns

In 2023, cancer returned. This second diagnosis created a different perspective. Not because Stu was weaker. But because he had become far more aware of how precious time really is. For the first time, he began thinking seriously about legacy.

What could he build that genuinely helped future generations of artists, venues, filmmakers and creators?

What could he give back to an industry that had given him so much?

The answer slowly began to emerge.

Terra Nueva

A Brand New World!

Chapter 10

Building A Brand New World

Today, Terra Nueva is no longer simply an idea.

Terra Nueva TV has launched.

Global livestream productions have taken place.

Virtual venues are being developed.

Motion capture testing has begun.

Gaming integrations are being explored.

Independent film opportunities are emerging.

Collaborations with universities, technology partners and real-time production specialists continue to accelerate development.

The foundations of a completely new entertainment ecosystem are being built.

Chapter 11

Why Terra Nueva Matters

Throughout his career, Stu has watched the entertainment industry evolve dramatically.

Vinyl became CDs. CDs became downloads. Downloads became streaming.

Technology transformed almost every aspect of how entertainment is created and consumed.

Yet many challenges remain. Venues struggle. Touring costs continue to rise. Independent artists fight harder than ever to earn a living. Filmmakers struggle to find meaningful distribution. Creators often find themselves disconnected from global audiences.

Terra Nueva seeks to address those challenges by creating additional opportunities rather than replacing existing ones.

Additional audiences.

Additional revenue streams.

Additional experiences.

A connected ecosystem where artists, venues, filmmakers, creators and audiences all benefit together.

Chapter 12

Full Circle

One of the most surreal moments of this journey arrived in May 2026. Through Terra Nueva TV, Stu helped deliver a global livestream featuring Geoff Tate. As the production unfolded, it was impossible for him not to think back to 1984. Forty-two years earlier, he had stood in a crowd watching Queensrÿche open for Dio. Back then, he was simply a fan. A young guitarist trying to find his place in the world. He couldn't have imagined Formula One. Hollywood film production. Global touring. Venue ownership. Cancer.

Or, indeed, Terra Nueva.

Yet here he was, helping broadcast Geoff Tate to a global audience through a platform he had created. Life has a funny way of bringing things full circle.

Looking back, Terra Nueva suddenly makes perfect sense.

The musician.

The songwriter.

The architectural designer.

The builder.

The venue owner.

The logistics specialist.

The tour manager.

The entrepreneur.

The cancer survivor.

The dreamer.

Every road led here.

Terra Nueva isn't the result of a single idea.

It's the culmination of a lifetime spent designing spaces, creating experiences, solving problems, building communities and believing that entertainment can always evolve into something even more powerful. The future of entertainment won't be physical.

It won't be virtual.

It will be both.

And for Stu Phillips, the journey that began in 1984 is only just getting started.

Welcome to Terra Nueva.

A Brand New World.
